RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO OPPOSING THE PROPOSED REDWOOD CITY CHARTER AMENDMENT INITIATIVE AND ENUMERATING THE REASONS THEREFORE
______________________________________________________________
RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that
WHEREAS, a proposed Redwood City Charter Amendment Initiative (the “Initiative”) has qualified for the November 2008 General Election ballot in Redwood City; and
WHEREAS, the Initiative would impose numerous negative impacts on certain San Mateo County homeowners, business owners, property owners and taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, the Initiative would make it extremely difficult to make levy improvements east of Highway 101 to reduce flooding, thereby creating potential regional public safety risks; and
WHEREAS, the Initiative would add to the difficulty of building a commuter ferry terminal in the Redwood City area, and thereby eliminate an opportunity to reduce regional traffic congestion; and
WHEREAS, the Initiative could impact the County of San Mateo’s ability to get fair market value for sale of certain surplus County property.
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo hereby formally opposes the proposed Redwood City Charter Amendment Initiative.
